HYDRaulics Research and its Application next century – HYDRA 2000 – was the main theme of the twenty-sixth IAHR Congress held at the Institution of Civil Engineers in London from 11 to 15 September 1995. This congress theme was chosen so as to bring together researchers, hydraulics users and practitioners to expose and discuss matters of common interest.
The main theme was broken down into four topics:
1. Integration of research approaches and applications
2. Industrial hydraulics and multi-phase flows
3. Future paths in maritime hydraulics
4. The hydraulics of water resources and their development
The papers for each of these topics are produced in separate volumes of the proceedings. Additionally there are communications (short papers or technical notes), and student papers which were submitted for the John F. Kennedy Student competition.
At the Congress an invited lecture was given on each of the four topics by leading authorities. The extended papers on which these four lectures were based are also included in the proceedings, which thus provide an up-to-date account of the role of hydraulics research and the part it can play in the optimisation of future developments.
