IAHR and the THIRD WORLD MEMBERSHIP FUND (TWMF)
Overview
In 1990, IAHR took the initiative to establish a Third World Membership Fund (TWMF). The aim is to enable colleagues from developing countries to become an IAHR member, receiving the Journal of Hydraulic Research and Newsletter, and participate in the IAHR network. The barriers to becoming IAHR members are two-fold; low income levels in some countries and the strict banking regulations that do not allow money transfers in hard currency for individual transactions.
It is our hope that after some years of support, the TWMF-supported members will be able to find ways to pay the Membership themselves, however, we intend to do whatever needed to keep those people interested in IAHR as members, despite their hardship.
Donations
The Fund is sponsored by members from industrialised countries, of whom many donate an annual lump sum when paying their personal Membership fee to IAHR. This can be done through a general donation or by agreeing to support a specific colleague for a number of years, in which we kindly ask you to inform us whom you would have in mind for an IAHR Membership.
Future
Please continue to help IAHR fulfilling its mission and enable colleagues from lesser developed countries to participate in the IAHR network. We have a strong instrument for providing world-wide exchange of knowledge and expertise in hydraulic engineering and research – let us use it in the best possible way.
